In 2024, I was hired as a full time Art Director/Designer at famous Canadian department store, The Hudson’s Bay Company and my first big campaign was going to be Bay Days Spring 2025. For those unfamiliar, Bay Days was Hudson’s Bay’s big campaign in the year where they had huge mark downs on items from clothing, shoes, linens and other housewares.&nbsp; The chosen direction all came form some unlikely inspiration—those ‘Thank you’ bags you get from the convenience stores, only we wanted to flip the colours to match the red of The Bay’s Stripes palette. My Creative Directors, Vince, Juan and Randy oversaw the campaign’s creation and approved the look and feel as it came to life and I worked very closely with the other designers on the team to make sure we had everything from site components, emails and out-of-home pieces ready for the campaign launch. I designed the station signage and a few of the posters.The idea evolved a little from it’s original inception, but I’m still pretty happy with the end result. Most of the stats I pulled came from an old Punisher cover by Eliot Brown and took art direction cues from another cover by Tim Bradstreet. I was tasked with coming up with a look and feel for the campaign as well as proposing some potential ideas for photography for a potential shoot. One fun thing I had proposed was to give the campaign a new colour palette based on the HBC Sripes, one that reflected a lot of the tones used in Menswear and just felt a little more rich to elevate the campaign. creative team at Salt to illustrate a whole Storybook for Kraft Peanut Butter.&nbsp; As a very devout Kraft Peanut Butter consumer, I could not say no for an opportunity to work with the iconic Kraft Bears especially in this capacity. The ask was to draw out the story Julie wrote which sees Smoothy and Crunchy go from one end of the country to the other to deliver a message for a boy to his grandmother. The book’s contents were posted daily from in December leading up to the finale on Christmas day. So as I was working, I would have to create a placeholder character to then revise the day of going live. During the pandemic, I decided to fire up Garage Band and start putting all the R&amp;B acapellas and MF DOOM beats I had been harvesting all my life to use. The idea came to life after DOOM passed and like he had created this persona based on a Marvel villain, I wanted to do the same, and who else would be more fitting to play off than the villainess Madame Masque? Obviously since I don’t like lawsuits the name had to change and since I am a male making music behind female vocals, my best friend Diana suggested I change it to “Masc”. <img width="2000" height="2000" width_o="2000" height_o="2000" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/232c189cd5e2c2ee5f7087a77026423e5d7d8f9bf2587096b980fd10c5d070f6/FINALDEMOCOVER.png" data-mid="126839120" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/232c189cd5e2c2ee5f7087a77026423e5d7d8f9bf2587096b980fd10c5d070f6/FINALDEMOCOVER.png" /> The album cover was designed one night when I just started cutting up DOOM masks in Photoshop and laying them over black and white photos of the singers I was using vocals of on the project. My desired outcome was trying to make something that felt like DOOM’s Viktor Vaughn album and sorta said “femme fatale” I landed on this one photo of Coko (of SWV) from her first solo album.&nbsp; I then I blew it up showing the moire pattern and halftone screen and added the mask to the image. The idea to make it gold was based on the Marvel villainess the name reference to, but also inspired by the debut album of artist Santigold (the one where she’s puking gold glitter), which was similar to Madvilliany’s cover homaged Madonna’s debut in it’s art directon. By summer I had finished the project and got to designing the packaging of the album. I decided to do a small run of casettes that I sent to family, friends and clients. So due to the “demand”, in the fall, I decided to create a follow-up, Madame Masc II: Tomboy Terror. This release was a little more thought out and I got a little more creative adding in clips from cartoons or movies into it to help tell a loose&nbsp; narrative about “one’s authentic self” . The two were to be classic golden age characters, so I got my Jack Kirby on and pulled inspiration from characters like Ant-Man, Magneto and both Black Widows.
